Dr. Scholz — Kamishibai Photography is a global practice of documentary and narrative photography inspired by Japanese paper theater (Kamishibai) and shadow play . It explores human presence in public and semi-public spaces across Canada, the United States, Korea, Japan, and other urban environments. The work focuses on people, movement, and behaviour, while also highlighting the traces they leave behind : objects, pathways, gestures, and the subtle imprints of human activity. Subjects are engaged through playful interaction, sometimes directly responding to the camera, producing a “quantum effect” in which the observer subtly alters the environment. A defining feature of this style is temporal storytelling . Sequential images of the same subject, object, or environment, taken over months or years, create evolving narratives that capture change, continuity, and the passage of life. Each photograph acts as a frame in a larger story, echoing the episodic, sequential format of K...

Kamishibai Street Photography is an international practice that blends documentary observation with narrative storytelling, inspired by Kamishibai and shadow play . It captures human presence in public and semi-public spaces, using existing elements in the environment to create story frames where everyday life becomes theatre. Playful interaction with subjects is integral: participants may respond to the camera or improvise with the space, producing a subtle “quantum effect” in which the observer alters the environment. The work embraces both candid and lightly guided moments, revealing the rhythm, gestures, and traces of human activity across cultures and geographies. Each photograph is a frame in a larger story, a reflection of reality rendered through narrative, environment, and play.

Human Presence Street Photography is an international project focused on people and the environments they inhabit. I work across Canada, the United States, Korea, Japan, and wherever public life unfolds. My photography centres on people — not only their visible faces but also their movement, posture, habits, interactions, and the marks they leave behind. Airports, beaches, transit hubs, markets, alleyways, stations, and city cores become sites where human behaviour reveals itself naturally. I’m drawn to the moments where individuals and crowds shape a space: the way they gather, separate, pause, leave objects behind, or imprint their rhythm on the environment. Direct human presence, indirect presence, and environmental presence are all part of one continuous human story. The name EDO MUNDO reflects a gateway between places and times. Each image is a threshold — connecting cities, cultures, and the flow of people through them. My work extends street photography beyond one lo...

Thinking About Switching to digiKam (My Notes for You All) Lately I’ve been trying to sort out a long-term plan for managing all my photos and videos. I’ve got files spread over multiple drives, some of them not even plugged in most of the time, and I want a system that lets me browse and organize everything without relying on the internet or cloud services. Privacy matters to me, and I don’t want a program sneaking anything online. After doing some research, digiKam keeps coming up as the strongest option. It’s completely offline. No accounts. No background sync. It runs even if you disconnect the internet entirely. It also remembers files on drives that aren’t plugged in, which is important for me because I bounce between different storage devices. One thing I wanted to understand was how much space the program itself uses. The answer: not much compared to the actual photos. The database (tags, metadata, all the catalog stuff) is usually a few hundred megabytes to a few gig...

Golden hour. That fragile, fleeting hour that should feel like a blessing, like liquid gold pouring across the world, but in my hands it often feels like a trap. The 10–20mm lens, wide and bold, stretches everything it touches. Faces lengthen unnaturally, noses become mountains, eyes like tiny moons in an alien sky. I want to capture intimacy, the secret geometry of a person’s face, the whisper of their personality, but this lens is a trickster, a mischievous sprite that laughs at my intentions. Shadows slash across cheeks, highlights explode like fireworks I didn’t order, and every subtle line, every curve I hope to caress with light becomes something exaggerated, something almost grotesque. And yet, I see it in the work of others. They embrace the chaos. They say the wide lens is freedom, distortion is a form of honesty, risk is the marrow of art. I want that, I crave it—but at golden hour, when the sun drips low and tender across the horizon, it feels like trying to cage a com...
