Sony’s $500 budget full-frame is incredible

to the relevant comments: @DesmondHume Your assessment of the A7 III being the biggest leap in Sony’s lineup is well-founded. The improvements in build quality, battery life, autofocus , and dual card slots make it a more future-proof option. Given the price difference in your market, the A7 III does seem like a no-brainer (obvious choice). @frogallic Market fluctuations are unpredictable, but if you’re set on getting a deal, keeping an eye on used markets or seasonal sales might help. @Mouxbar & @renepawlitzek7298 Manual vintage lenses on an A7 series camera offer a unique shooting experience. Fujinon and Contax Zeiss glass are excellent choices—some of the best in the legacy lens world. @POVwithRC Digital photo frames returning to relevance is indeed amusing. The resurgence of retro tech always seems cyclical. @EcclecticNerd Pentax users definitely have a different perspective on autofocus speed . Sony menus can be divisive, but adaptabilit...
Thirty years ago, Minolta and Agfa teamed up to make something strange. Two cameras came from it: the Minolta RD-175 and the Agfa Actioncam . Both launched in 1995. Both built on the Dynax 500si . 1.75MP sensor (1528x1146) . 2.0x crop factor . ISO 800, no more, no less . Price? $9,500 USD . Big sensors cost a fortune back then. Look at Kodak’s DCS line. Minolta and Agfa found another way. Three tiny 380,000-pixel CCDs (768x394) , split by a prism. The camera combined them into a final 1.75MP image . A wild idea. A bold experiment. Did it work? Here’s how it compares: Kodak EOS-1n DCS 3c (1995) vs. Agfa Actioncam (1995) Flickr album Agfa Actioncam (1995) vs. Kodak DCS 520 (1998) Flickr album Agfa Actioncam (1995) vs. Nikon D500 (2016) Flickr album Fujix DS-505 (1994) vs. Minolta RD-175 (1995) Flickr album Minolta RD-175 (1995) vs. Minolta RD-3000 (1999) Flickr album Minolta RD-175 (1995) vs. Lumix GF2 (2011) Flickr album What do you think?  If your GoPro is creating multiple files per video , the additional files could serve different purposes. Here’s a breakdown of common extra files you might see: 1. MP4 Files (GXO####.MP4) – The Main Video Your video is likely split into multiple parts due to file size limitations, especially in high-resolution formats (4K/5K, high bitrate, or long recordings). You need to merge them in editing software to get the full video. 2. LRV Files (GXO####.LRV) – Low-Resolution Preview These are Low-Resolution Video (LRV) files used for faster playback on your GoPro app. If you're browsing on your GoPro or editing in the app , it uses these for smooth performance. Not needed if you're transferring full-quality files. 3. THM Files (GXO####.THM) – Thumbnail Images These are tiny thumbnail images used to display previews on your GoPro or app. Not part of the actual video. 4. WAV Files (Audio Separates in Some Modes) If enabled, GoPro might save separate audio tracks (for example, RA...

Tony & Chelsea Northrup’s YouTube channel stands as an anomaly in the photography space—eschewing the vacuous platitudes of influencer culture in favor of substantive, empirically grounded discourse. Their content is predicated on rigorous technical scrutiny rather than the performative exuberance that saturates much of the genre. Tony’s analytical exactitude, informed by empirical testing and statistical methodology, juxtaposes well with Chelsea’s intuitive, aesthetic-driven approach, yielding a dialectic that is both intellectually and creatively stimulating. Their willingness to interrogate industry dogma—whether deconstructing brand mythology or scrutinizing the commercial viability of photography as a profession—imbues their content with a degree of integrity that is increasingly rare. Yet, for all their merits, the channel is not without its peccadilloes. Their increasing predilection for clickbait-adjacent titling introduces an unwarranted sensationalism that belies the rig...
